California, Here We Come
wish. I have always been a little bit in love with California, and our recent habit of mainlining The OC is not helping. I have been dreaming of California for months now. Years, really. So I have decided that it is going to be my next travel destination. I am hoping to have enough to go at the beginning of September, but we’ll see how that shakes down. Perhaps it will be a little bit later, but I am swearing a solemn oath, right here, right now, with all of you as my witnesses, that I am going to make it to California this year.
I want to see all of California, and will hopefully make it to the northern part of the state at some point, but, at the risk of sounding like a cliche, I’m heading down south first. And here is what I’m hoping I will get to do.
Did you miss that whole part about how I am completely obsessed with The OC? Just hearing the theme song makes me feel like I’m 16 again (hence the title of this post!). So there is no way that I could head down to SoCal without hitting up Newport. It would be a travesty.
San Diego Zoo
I know, I know, I’m not breaking any new ground here. Who doesn’t want to hit up the San Diego Zoo, which is supposed to be one of the greatest zoos ever? I have a soft spot for zoos. Bryan and I have even been to the crappy one in Edmonton more than once. Last year we went in April. All of the animals weren’t even out yet, and we still had a blast. Zoos are the bee’s knees. The cat’s pajamas. The leopard’s spots. Etc etc.
Come ON, this is pretty much a given. Hopefully there will be some surfing involved. I have always wanted to try it, though I have a sneaking suspicion that I am not a natural (I possess the natural grace of a newborn foal).
Would you believe I’ve never been to Disneyland? I know. I KNOW. My parents obviously didn’t love me. I guess I’ll just have to love myself and haul ass to the most magical place on earth. I’m just kidding, I’m pretty sure my parents love me.
Drive the PCH
Pacific Coast Highway, yo. Purportedly the most beautiful drive in America. And it featured a lot in Veronica Mars, so obviously, I’m so there.
Visit Farmers Market in LA
I LOVE farmers markets. They are one of the greatest inventions. I could wander around even tiny ones for hours, just looking at stuff. So a big ass one in LA? Done and done. The only problem will be tearing me away.
Have you guys ever been to California? What was your favorite thing to do? Do you have any suggestions for me?
