30 Before 30
Even though I came home early from Ireland, I have not given up on travel. i still plan on making it a priority in my life, and have several trips planned already (just waiting for the monies necessary to make them happen): California in September, SE Asia in May/June, and New Zealand in October.
While I was trying to make the decision of whether or not I should leave the Emerald Isle, I was also contemplating how I felt about travel and whether my desires on that front had changed or not. The answer? A definitive not. I still want to see the world. A lot of it. And so I set myself a rather lofty goal: see 30 countries before I turn 30.
For some, this may not be lofty. For long term travellers, people who get to travel for work, etc, 30 countries before 30 (I will be 24 in June), may seem easy. But it is a challenge for me and I am excited about it! Even though I won’t get to start on it in earnest until next year.
I decided to count the countries that I have been to already as part of the challenge, rather than saying I had to go to 30 new countries. So that leaves 27 countries in the next 6 years, after subtracting the USA (2010), Mexico (1998), and Ireland (2013). That means an average of 4.5 countries a year. Could get tricky, but I am up to to the task. A subgoal is to celebrate each of my birthdays from 25-30 in a different country.
So where do I want to go? What are my priorities? I have talked about a few of these places before, but I will take any opportunity I can to look through amazing travel photography!
Obviously there are a whole mess of other places I’d like to go to, but these are the top of the list.
Have you challenged yourself to do anything that seems a bit crazy? If you were going to hit up 30 countries before you turned 30, where would you go?
